MUSIC LEADERS UK

Music Leaders UK is an awarding organisation that transforms the way that young people engage with music education.

Our awards develop leadership skills through the power of music, unlocking potential now, and for the future.

Young people love music.

Yet 92% drop out of studying music in their teens – just when it can help them the most.

Our awards help young people to build confidence, resilience, and motivation to learn. They gain skills in communication, oracy, teamwork, critical thinking, metacognition, problem-solving and more.

They keep young people involved and enaged in music; help grow young leaders for your school, college, youth work, special educational or alternative provision setting; and address the attainment gap.

I think it will help me in the future, trying to think how I can be an effective leader while I'm making music and also confidence and communication stuff for outside of music as well. I think it's a helpful skill and a lot of fun.

WHY DELIVER OUR AWARDS?

  • Engage and retain more learners including those with additional needs, with syllabuses young people shape through the music they love.
  • Provide alternative music pathways through KS3 and KS4.
  • Develop leadership skills – communication, oracy, teamwork, critical thinking, resilience, self-belief, problem solving and more…
  • Enable young people to gain recognition for their personal musical interests and skills.
  • Help improve mental wellbeing and behaviour, increase attendances, reduce exclusions, boost self-esteem.
  • Address lack of diversity in young people who take up music qualifications.

It's easy to run our awards in your school because they:

1

Fit seamlessly into your school’s curriculum

They’re mapped against outcomes of the national curriculum.

3

Can be delivered by non-music teachers

We provide all materials – a syllabus, session plans, worksheets, assessment criteria. If you’re a music specialist, they’re also easily adaptable.

2

Are easy to administer

With very little paperwork!

4

Can be funded by wider school budgets such as Pupil Premium

Potentially transformative for young people facing challenging circumstances.
